Hey, everyone! Just like in my photo above I put my wife first, and my son on my shoulders so he can stand tall and see the world from a different perspective. That’s exactly what I want for you too! I want you to be able to put the most important things first in your life. I want you to control your business, not have your business control you.
I fell backward into entrepreneurship, I did not intend to own a business, nor own a business early in life. I grew up in the trades and I never really saw myself as a business owner but growing up I thought when I learned everything about an air conditioner/HVAC that I would have “arrived”, that I would be able to live a good life, own a small house, and a small boat and be content.
Well… I was 20 years old, I had arrived at a “knowledge” level but I wasn’t getting paid at that knowledge level. I was in an abusive home surrounded by addiction and I needed to get out. I couldn’t afford to leave, so that’s when owning a business first came online for me. I stuck it out, decided to go to school for business at night, and continued my journey. I believed that business was still something far out of my comfort zone. I continued to be an Air Conditioning technician but I noticed that I was the first one in, last one out, working on the weekends and more. To me, it went past good work ethic, I felt like a slave to my job. It wasn’t like I could hop ship, this is how the industry is set up for a young technician.
I remember clear as day, I was in an attic in Bethesda MD, at 22 years old my back hurt and I thought to myself, “It’s 4:30 on a Friday, if I had a son and he had a soccer or football game, then I’d be missing it right now and my boss wouldn’t even care.” I was determined to take the leap…if I can work this hard and this many hours on an air conditioner than I can work this hard in business. I started my business, not because I wanted to be rich, to have a big house, or an even bigger boat, but because I knew I could create a place that I would want to work for, and others would also want to come and have a quality of life.
I’ve created a healthy, profitable thriving, multi-million dollar business in what some call a short period of time. I vow to put my God, my wife and my children first. I won’t miss a soccer game, a dance recital, or a parent-teacher conference. I won’t allow my business to own me, I own my business, and that’s what I want for you. It wasn’t an easy journey for me, I sure didn’t know anything when I got started but I always have the mindset of, we can figure this out, or as my dad would say: there are many ways to dig a hole. I’ve created something to be proud of and that’s what we’re going to do for you. If you saw my resume, it would include a college degree, many sales courses from renowned and famous salespeople, 4 master technician licenses, an MHIC license, 2 patents, and two successful, profitable businesses. To me, nothing on my resume is important, it’s important to me that I have quality time with my family, my friends, and the men whom I pour into, and the ones that pour into me.
Hi! I’m Nathan. This site is all about business and work, but to be honest, the most important titles in my life are husband, father, and friend. I am a lifelong learner and I’ve always strived to honor God with my family, business, and ministry through encouraging people to be their best while I’ve pushed to be my best. I love building relationships based on trust, and I enjoy solving problems and creating systems that help teams be more efficient. When I'm not working, I'm in the wilderness on roads less traveled with my family and friends riding mountain bikes or backpacking. I honestly feel more at home in the woods than anywhere else. I love whisking my bride away on weekend adventures as frequently as possible.
When I think about it, I haven't changed much since I was a kid. I’ve always liked fixing things. Seeing something function as it was intended is a beautiful thing. It’s elegant. It’s art in motion. When I was a kid it was the door knobs in my house, my tree house out back, or my bicycle. When I got to junior high it became cars when I started working in my family's automotive repair business. Now it’s businesses themselves.
I studied business and biblical studies in college and after getting married I helped run the family business, growing it every year. I carry all of the automotive certifications that you can have, and I spent many years happily “turning wrenches” as a technician.
Over time I realized that it was actually the people and systems to serve them that interested me the most. I started seeing the business as a machine that needs to be tuned and tweaked to get better performance by focusing on customer service first. After 28 years of the automotive industry I’ve shifted my focus to helping other businesses.
So what does an elegant, art in motion business look like? My goal is for each company that I work with to find the balance that lets three different people “WIN” every day: the client, employee, and owner.
At a business where all three people “win”, you find clients who are happy to pay for your goods and services because of their value; employees that love to come to work each day and are growing in their skills because of a culture where they’re cared for, challenged, and given clarity about the vision and their part in it; and an owner who has freedom - freedom to work on the business and not having to work in it every day. I’m excited to help you find the “win” in your business!
